3.5.11.2.1 Evaporative type air conditioning system. The air conditioning system shall
be an evaporative air conditioning system. The system shall consist of a stainless steel,
rear-mounted evaporative cooling unit, an underbody water storage tank and associated water
system components, the air distribution system, the electrical controls and wiring, and the water
supply lines. The evaporative cooling unit shall be designed to be installed in the air
conditioning compartment so located as to avoid interference with the loading, unloading or
transport of litter patients. The single high capacity air conditioning unit shall include the system
blowers and motors, the evaporative media, the water distribution system, the unit housing, and a
heating coil and thermostat. The water storage tank shall be designed to supply water to the
evaporative cooling unit for an operating design day. The tank shall include the water transfer
componentry and the mounting supports. The air distribution system shall include the
distribution plenum, the supply air grille, and optional return air grilles and transitions. The
electrical controls shall be installed in a electrical enclosures mounted in the evaporative cooling
unit to allow easy access. All electrical wiring and water lines shall be installed to minimize
vibration effects and corrosion. When an evaporative air conditioning system is furnished, a
vehicle total fuel capacity of not less than 60 gallons is acceptable (see 3.4.3.2).

3.5.11.3 Vehicle Engine Powered Air Conditioning. When specified (see 6.2), the
manufacturer's standard vehicle engine powered air conditioning system shall be furnished. The
system shall provide adequate cooling for all passenger locations and meet performance
requirements in 3.5.11. The vehicle engine powered air conditioning system shall include,
but not limited to, any necessary insulation, increased engine cooling capacity, alternator and
battery capabilities. The vehicle, with the vehicle engine powered air conditioning system in
operation, shall meet the performance requirements specified in 3.3.1 through 3.3.1.2.
3.5.12 Body equipment. Body equipment shall be complete with all accessories listed by
the body manufacturer as standard equipment and, in addition, all buses shall include the items
specified in 3.5.12.1 through 3.5.12.9.

3.5.12.1 Rearview mirrors. One nonglare type mirror shall be mounted inside the bus
and two mirrors outside, one each at the left and right hand sides, mounted to permit maximum
vision without obstruction and to be visible on the right through the upper corner of the
windshield and on the left through the driver's window(s). The inside rearview mirror shall have
a reflective surface area of not less than 80 square inches. Outside rearview mirrors shall be of
the combination (flat and convex) type. Each combination mirror shall have at least 50 square
inches of flat reflective area and a convex surface having at least 25 square inches of reflective
area and a radius of curvature of not less than 20 inches. When specified (see 6.2), the curbside
flat mirror shall be of the motorized type, with remote control within the reach of the driver.
