3.4.19 Horn. The manufacturer's standard electric horn shall be furnished.
3.5 Cab and body. The vehicle shall be a body-on-chassis with cab design, modified to form an integral cab and body. The vehicle shall be provided with walk-through access between the cab (driver's compartment) and the body. All exterior roof and body seams and joints shall be weatherproof. Materials, fabrication and attachments shall be adequate to withstand working stresses, including dynamic loads encountered in heavy duty off-road operations, without permanent set, loosening of any fastenings, distortion or displacement of any component or loss
of weatherproof construction. Dissimilar metals shall be fully isolated from each other to prevent
galvanic action.
3.5.1 Cab modification. The original chassis manufacturer's cab roof shall be removed and replaced by a roof of not less than 20 gage (0.0359 inch) sheet steel or 0.040 inch thick aluminum, or molded fiberglass with metal structural support members. The roof shall start at the cab windshield and shall be continuous curving rearward and upward to the exterior height and width of the ambulance body. The sides and floor of the cab shall be similarly blended into the sides and floor of the ambulance body. The modified cab shall be permanently attached to the ambulance body and completely sealed at all points of attachment.
3.5.1.1 Cab interior. Modified cab interior areas shall be paneled with material identical to that used for the ambulance body interior (see 3.5.3.8) or with a one- or two-piece molded fiberglass liner. All areas exposed by cab modification shall be paneled. Fiberglass liner(s) shall be similar in color to the chassis manufacturer's original cab interior color.
3.5.1.2 Cab stowage cabinets. Stowage cabinets shall be incorporated into the paneling above the cab doors, if space permits. A top hinged cabinet door with continuous hinges and a latch at the bottom shall be provided for each cabinet. The cabinet doors shall open to the maximum extent possible, but not less than 90 degrees in any case. The bottom edge of the cabinet openings shall have a l-inch turned up lip to prevent loose items from sliding out of the cabinets. Where the roof structure prevents installation of cabinets above the doors, alternate stowage space in the doors, or to the rear of the doors, shall be provided.
