3.1.1.8 Warning lights. One warning light conforming to MS51317 shall be mounted in
the front center of the bus on the roof section immediately above the driver's compartment, and
one on the rear of the bus, center or right of center. Neither light shall extend above the roof line
of the coach main body, and each shall be properly reinforced at points of attachment. The color
of warning lights shall be red. Both lights shall be operable by means of a separate switch with
an indicating light installed on the driver's instrument panel. The switch and indicating light shall
be properly identified.
3.1.1.9 Ambulance conversion features. The vehicle shall be provided with various
ambulance conversion features specified herein.
3.1.1.9.1 Drawings. Overall outline sketch(es) or drawing(s) shall be furnished with the
supplier's proposal or quotation showing location of doors, seating, equipment, litter installation
and lift platform mechanism. Prior to start of production the contractor shall furnish two sets of
complete layout and general assembly drawings of the proposed vehicle to the engineering office
of the procuring activity for customer approval. After approval, any modifications shall be
likewise submitted for customer approval.
3.2 General design.

3.2.1 Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. The vehicle and furnished accessories
shall comply with all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards in effect on the date of
manufacture.

3.2.2 Air pollution control. The vehicle shall comply with EPA Regulations governing
Control of Air Pollution from New Motor Vehicles and New Motor Vehicle Engines in effect on
the date of manufacture. In addition, vehicles destined for California shall comply with State of
California regulations governing air pollution control in effect on the date of manufacture.

3.2.3 Sound level. The interior sound level shall conform to Federal Motor Carrier
Safety Regulation 393.94. The vehicle exterior sound level shall conform to EPA Interstate
Motor Carrier Noise Emission Standards when tested in accordance with the Regulations of the
Department of Transportation, Part 325.
3.2.4 Curb weight. The curb weight shall include the weight of the chassis, body with all
attachments, accessories, litter kits, and equipment furnished; full complement of fuel, lubricants
and coolant; and operator (weight computed at 175 pounds).
