2.12 Casket compartment. The size and arrangement of the casket compartment shall be adequate for the transportation, loading, and unloading, through the rear door, of a casket having a maximum gross weight, including the deceased, of 600 pounds (275 kilograms). The casket compartment shall be separated from the driver's compartment by a sliding glass partition. The interior of the hearse shall be finished with drapes, wood grain applique and color coordinated interior upholstery. Interior lights shall also be furnished. The floor of the casket compartment shall be covered with a decorative phenolic not less than 0.05 in. (1 mm) thick or current production carpet material. Exposed edges shall be covered with corrosion-resistant moldings. The rear door shall have the right side hinged, and back, inner and outer panels to permit unhampered loading of the casket. The rear door shall open and close from the inside and outside. Locks shall use the same key as the driver's door. The rear window shall be glass and permanently fixed.
2.13 Casket compartment accessories. Rubber casket rollers, skid plates, bier pin plates, bier holder on wheelhouse upholstery and one set of bier pins shall be provided as required by the manufacturer's specifications.
2.14 Interior lights. The interior of the hearse shall have at least one driver's compartment light, indirect lighting for the instrument panel, and two domelights in the casket compartment that operate when any casket compartment door is opened.
2.15 Servicing and adjusting. Prior to acceptance of the vehicle by the Government inspector,
the contractor shall service and adjust each vehicle and its mounted equipment for operational use including at least the following: alignment of lights; adjustment of the engine and brake systems; filling and charging of the battery; inflation of all tires; complete lubrication of chassis, engine, running gear, and mounted equipment with grades of lubricants recommended for ambient air temperature at the delivery point; servicing of the cooling system with a solution of ethylene glycol type antifreeze and water in equal parts by volume; and servicing of the windshield washer reservoir with water and appropriate additives.
2.16 Identification and markings. Identification and markings of the hearse shall be permanent and legible and shall include, as a minimum, the manufacturer's identification code (CAGE), the contract number, and the National Stock Number (NSN),
2.17 Treatment and painting. Unless otherwise specified in the contract or order (see 6.2), the hearse shall be cleaned, treated, and painted in accordance with the contractor's commercial practice. When specified (see 6.2), the hearse shall be rustproofed to the manufacturer's commercial standards.
