COMMERCIAL ITEM DESCRIPTION AUTOMOBILE, HEARSE: COMMERCIAL
The General Services Administration has authorized the use of this commercial item description (CID), for all federal agencies.
1. SCOPE. This CID covers a commercial hearse, utilizing a commercial limousine chassis, gasoline engine powered and commercial cowl, with a hearse body conforming generally to the automobile manufacturer's style.
2. SALIENT CHARACTERISTICS
2.1 Material. Material shall conform to the contractor's commercial standards and shall be subject to all provisions of this specification. Asbestos, Cadmium and radioactive materials shall not be used in this item. Radioactive material is defined by Title 10, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Parts 20, 30 and 40, and other radioactive material which is greater than 0.002 microcuries per gram or 0.01 microcuries total activity for the item.
2.1.1 Material deterioration prevention and control. Hearses shall be fabricated from materials inherently corrosion and deterioration resistant or treated to provide protection against the various forms of corrosion and deterioration that may be encountered in any of the applicable
storage and operating environments to which the hearses may be exposed. Dissimilar metals shall not be used in intimate contact with each other unless protected against galvanic corrosion.
2.2 Design and construction. The vehicle described by this CID shall be a deluxe funeral coach with all available accessories for maximum driver comfort and appearance. Vehicle shall be procurable as an "off-the-shelf", commercially produced, readily available item. The vehicle and furnished accessories shall comply with all Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards in effect on the date of manufacture.
